We are lucky enough to live in an area full of wildlife, and things to do. We like to get out at least once a week and explore something new to us. Even though we had been before this week we went to the Tampa Manatee Viewing Center again. There is so much to see or do at the Tampa Manatee Viewing Center and it is FREE to the public.
What is the Tampa Manatee Viewing Center?
The Tampa Manatee Viewing Center is located at 6990 Dickman Rd, Apollo Beach, FL 33572 and is open November 1 through April 15 from 10 am to 5 pm daily. This is located near the Big Bend Power Plant which outputs warm water into Tampa Bay attracting manatees and other wildlife seeking warmer water during the cooler months.
Things to do at the Tampa Manatee Viewing Center?
Don’t let the name fool you. There is much more to see and do here than just watch the manatees. Along with viewing the manatees, there is also a ray touch tank, nature paths, butterfly garden, and an environmental education building. We really took our time when we went this last time and spent about 2 hours just wandering around.
My kids were fascinated by the monarch butterfly garden. They even saw a cocoon hatching! I am pretty sure we spent the longest time at the touch tank that was full of rays and a couple horseshoe crabs. So much fun!
What ages is the Tampa Manatee Viewing Center for?
I really feel like there is something for any nature lover here. There are signs and activities for the smallest and largest manatee fans. While everyone might find different parts fascinating this is a great day activity for the entire family.
