We are a family of 5. Getting into Museums, Zoos, and other recreational locations can get expensive and do so quickly. Of course, as a homeschool family those are the kinds of places we love to go because we can learn so many things hands on. That is why we began looking at local museum and zoo’s annual passes. These simple tips for saving on admission with annual passes have helped us enjoy more for less!
Snag a Deal
First things first. You need to learn if your local attractions are worth paying for. Follow them on Facebook and check out their websites for deals! Many museums and zoos offer discount days. This is a perfect time to check them out and see how much your family enjoys it.
Is it Worth Returning
This is a big question. Is your attraction worth returning to? I have taken my kids to many museums and attractions that were fun for a couple hours but I would never pay to go again. There just wasn’t enough to do. Make sure before you purchase and annual pass that it is worth returning.
How Much is It
Cost is important! It costs almost the same for a days admission for our family of 5 as it does for an Annual Pass to our local zoo. Then we get to go back all year and enjoy the other benefits. It is a no-brainer. You need to research and factor the cost to make sure you are getting the biggest bang for your buck.
OK….this is the secret of saving! We have an Annual Membership to a local Art Museum. It is fun to go walk around occasionally but with that membership we get a reciprocal membership to a HUGE list of other museums around the country. With that reciprocal membership we get in for FREE to most places. We have literally saved HUNDREDS visiting other museums with this membership! It has more than paid for itself.
When purchasing a membership research their Reciprocal Membership programs and take advantage of them!
Like with all good things, many annual memberships have limitations. Find out if there are blackout days, limited visits, limited reciprocal membership, etc. You have to know what your are eligible for.
We currently hold 2 Annual Passes. One to the Zoo and one to the Museum. Both have their benefits, including special discounts, admissions, parking, and more. Stay connected and pay attention to the current specials with your local attraction.
Many zoos and museums now offer special Homeschool Days and Classes. Contact your local attraction to see what they have to offer. Our local museum even offers discounted passes to homeschool families! This is a perfect way to learn on the go and connect with others.
Don’t worry about the cost when you take your kids out on local field trips. These simple tips will help you save on admission to local attractions with annual passes!
